During the many years spent in Padova (up until about 1800), our composer composed SIXSONATAS FOR HARPSICHORD DEDICATED TO HIS EXCELLENCE MR. CARLO SPINOLA and printed them, probably in Venice.; We know that the Sonatas were composed during the Paduan period, because mentioned on the cover page is: Ferdinando Turrini, organist of the famous Monastery of Sta Giustina in Padova and the dedication, which follows, is enlightening:
Excellence … (Desiring to bring to light these Sonatas for Harpsichord that I composed during the time of the fatal blindness occurred to me in the peak of my age, I knew I needed, more than any other need, a valid and authoritative support, worthy to protect them.) (Only for this purpose did the venerable person which is his excellence come to mind, who in an eminent way can support them, after his conspicuous birth, the admirable personal qualities which adorn him, and the magnificence more than private with which he honours and protects and supports the educational concerts of numerous valuable Professors, which bring delight to anyone that has the fortune to hear them. (This fervent desire of mine comes to its fulfilment by being able to present this birth of my imagination to his excellence, and to be able to offer it with the deepest respect possible.) Dell’Ecc. V.ra … At your service Ferdinando Turrini organist of the famous Monastery of S.Giustina of Padova
